Will a swimming pool always add value to a property?

During the long hot summers, there’s nothing like having a swimming pool in your backyard. But for those with an eye on buying or selling property in Canberra, pools are important for another reason – the value they can add.

Done right, they can really improve what you get when you list the property. One Swimart survey found that a pool can add an estimated $30,000 to a home’s value. However, this has to come with a caveat – not every home is going to benefit in this way.

A more expansive or fancy pool may cost $30,000 just to install, and you have to make sure you comply with Territory and Federal safety guidelines. On top of this, you have to ask – will the people looking at my home want a pool? Young families might get a lot of enjoyment out of a backyard pool, but not every buyer will. Download MP3

If your home is close to the beach, you could even find this addition excess to requirements. Pools are fantastic in theory, but if you’re selling a property, you need to make sure it’s the right decision. Don’t know if this is the case?
